BRONZE PARTS FOR WIND MILL

CUSN12-C BRONZE PISTON

CuSn12-C is a cast tin bronze alloy that is known for its excellent mechanical properties, making it a suitable material for demanding applications, including pistons. Here is a summary of its key characteristics:

Chemical Composition

The alloy is primarily composed of copper (Cu) and tin (Sn), with a high tin content (around 10.5-13%). The “C” in the designation indicates that it is a cast alloy. Other elements may be present in small amounts, such as lead (Pb), nickel (Ni), and phosphorus (P), which can affect its properties.

Key Properties

  • High Wear Resistance: CuSn12-C exhibits excellent resistance to wear, making it suitable for parts that experience friction.
  • Good Sliding Properties: The alloy has good antifriction characteristics, particularly when paired with a hard shaft.
  • High Strength and Hardness: It is a tough and hard material with high tensile strength and a high Brinell hardness.
  • Corrosion Resistance: This bronze alloy offers good corrosion resistance, including in atmospheric and saline water environments. It is also resistant to cavitation stress.
  • High Load Capacity: CuSn12-C can handle high surface pressures and impacts, making it ideal for heavily stressed components.

Applications (including Pistons)

While the material is not exclusively used for pistons, its properties make it a very good choice for them and other high-performance components. Common applications include:

  • Bearings and Bushings: Especially for applications with high loads and relatively low to medium speeds.
  • Gears and Worm Gears: Used in gear manufacturing, particularly for highly stressed worm wheels.
  • Spindle Nuts and Slide Bars: Components that need to withstand high loads and friction.
  • Piston-pin bushings and pistons: Its high strength, wear resistance, and good antifriction properties are well-suited for these components in various machinery.
  • Pump Bodies and Fittings: Particularly for those used in water, steam, and marine environments due to its corrosion resistance.
